For sale through AB 4x4s Cleveland and nearing completion is a rare opportunity to purchase a very original Land Rover series 3, 6 seater that has matching numbers throughout. This makes it highly sought after for export with the original chassis, engine and gearbox still present.

With the view that this specification is so rare now we decided to go through the Land Rover to give it a full new lease of life. Listed below are some of the things we did over the last few months.

CHASSIS– This was completely needle gunned. It was apparent that the rear crossmember was not up to our high standards so we added a new galvanised rear quarter chassis. The rest of it where needed was carefully butt welded making this chassis look like it has no patching. We then undersealed it for future protection. Chassis number is present and correct.

BULKHEAD– This was repaired where required by our in house professional welder. Also butt welded so no nasty patching. Really does look superb.

BODYWORK– Well this is my domain. I was delighted to see all spot welds present meaning no nasty filler. The bodywork was super straight which is most unusual for a vehicle of this age. Door tops and bottoms were dented so we have added new galvanised door tops and bottoms so no more rust. To the rear we added a new galvanised door to complete the high spec. Bodywork will be finished in Pastel green, one of my favourite colours. All cappings and windscreen have been re-galvanised. It looks amazing.

INSIDE– We removed the floors and seat box and added new side repair sections and new floors. Also getting fully resprayed in Pastel green.


We are adding 3 front seats and 2 rear bench seats all with new seatbelts making this a real 7 seater. Front heavy duty mat set and rear load mat adds protection to the floor areas.

ENGINE– We removed the head and did a top end rebuild. We checked the bottom end which was fine resulting in a smooth running and reliable 2.25 petrol engine. We added new carb, dizzy, coil and leads at this time along with other parts.

GEARBOX– Well this had a noisy thrust bearing so we removed it and completely rebuilt it. We added a new clutch kit, slave cylinder and spigot bearing. The flywheel was checked and was fine. We also changed the rear crankshaft oil seal, silly not to do at this time. We of course treated the chassis in this area whilst access was good.

BRAKES– We are doing all new brakes and bearings throughout to include master cylinder so will stop as it should.

RUNNING GEAR– We added new parabolic springs and long travel shocks. New prop shafts front and back have just been added. We are adding many new parts in this area.

We have about 2 weeks before completion. The truck has now been fully resprayed and looks amazing. At this moment in time it can be changed to a soft top as the hard top is removed for painting.
